about

Composed between 2013 and 2016, Polar Institute grew out of a score composed for the live film soundtrack concert series 'Video Jam'. This was Ebb, and the film was Vertigo Experiment by UK artist and filmmaker Sarah Mercer.
In 2013-14, I worked on a ship sailing round South America and Antarctica. The effect of which further inspired this music. The music doesn't necessarily depict landscape features, but tried to articulate my contrasting feelings of wonder and joy at the beauty of those places, with the frustration at our continued abuse of them.
